Data ethics statement
What we collect, who can see it, how to opt out.
A vehicle fitted with SUNTRACK becomes a sensor. That only works if the people in it trust what the sensor does. This page says it plainly.
What we collect
Position, speed and heading; engine data from the vehicle bus (fuel, load, temperatures, fault codes, verified distance); accelerometer events; driver identity where a driver has identified; device health. Every record carries the owner’s consent status and the mandating party’s entitlement.
Who can see it
The owner, always, in the owner app. The mandating party — financier or insurer — sees only what its contract entitles it to. Associations see their members’ fleet view. Every access is logged and attributable.
What we never do
No audio. No cabin monitoring. No vehicle-level data leaves the platform without a licence. Aggregated products are de-identified at segment level. South African data stays in South Africa.
Consent
Owner and driver consent is taken at fitment, in plain language, for stated purposes, under POPIA. Drivers are data subjects: their identification and behaviour data need their consent, and their scores unlock their benefits.
How to opt out
Message us on WhatsApp or email info@suntrack.co. Where a financier or insurer mandates the device, opting out means the contract’s own terms apply — we will tell you exactly what that means before anything changes.
